Here is what I learned this weekend:
- The Poonanza was an awesome and fun and happy time
- Bird Knight drives a Cadillac
- The Eagles are going to the superbowl
- You can't teach "no limit holdem" to a person who has never played poker before in 2 1/2 hrs
- I am average at radio when I have had a full nights sleep
- I am a complete bore on the radio when I haven't slept in 24 hrs
On friday I performed at Walter Johnson high school at their annual paper, rock, scissors tourney. I was supposed to perform for 15 minutes but since I was doing it probono and no one was listening to me, I left after 8 minutes. I don't feel bad about it. It's not the kid's fault either, I would not have listened to me either...there were girls all around.
Poonanza III was a blast. I hope the crowd had as much fun as I did.
I played in a "no limit holdem" tournament at Atlantic City on Sunday. Joe Robinson tried to teach me his poker strategy on the car ride there; I will call it the "only play premium hands strategy." Once we got there I immediately began employing my own strategy which I named the "call everything and bluff constantly" technique. I was out of the tournament within the first 30 minutes. It was not Joe's fault, however, I do believe he overestimated my poker abilities. Joe played well but got called on an all-in and caught a bad break. Irronically, Bird Knight who Joe referred to as "the worst poker player I have ever seen," made it to the final table and split the pot with 6 other players earning himself $1,250,000.00. Congrats Bird.
Joe and I quickly entered a cash game and on the first hand I check raised an Angel Salazar look-alike with absolutely nothing. He called me and I lost half my stack. He then bragged that he read me and that I looked nervous. I thought that was hilarious since I was absolutely clueless as to what I was doing and had no feelings whatsoever. I did make a friend with the kid who was sitting next to me. He was listening to an ipod so I politely asked him what he was playing. He told me he was listening to "little wing" to which I immediately replied, "oh yeah, I love Hendrix." He looked puzzled and replied, "It's rap." I'm 31 years old and shouldn't try to relate to "young people." We had a good laugh and then he took the rest of my money.
I then decided to check up on the Fabulous Bird Knight who was at the craps table. When I got there, Bird was doing fabulously. I walked away from the table for a few minutes to take a phone call, when I returned, Bird was gone. Not sure what happenned there...
I made my way back to the poker tables where I found Joe and Bird holding court. I decided not to play but introduced myself to the table and was completely ignored. Tough crowd. Didn't matter though, I kept massaging the room and was soon crushing. Every joke was hitting and they loved me.
From there, I decided to go on a solo mission...to the Roulette wheel. I immediately employed my brilliant "red/evens" strategy and was well on my way to retirement when Robinson showed up. It was 2:30 am and was informed we had to leave to make radio at 6 am.
When we got to 98rock at 5:30 am, I was in a como. I said about 7 words in four hours and passed out 3 times. I am not great at radio and I think the main reason for this is because I am too complacent. Often, I am content to sit back and listen to conversation rather than shoehorn my way in.
Overall, it was a great weekend. I didn't lose too much money and had a blast hanging out with friends. Also, the eagles are amazing and will probably win the superbowl this year. Jeff Garcia is a scrappy dude and a charasmatic leader. If we beat the cowboys this week, we are going to the NFC championship, guaranteed!

In your second to last paragraph you mentioned "When we got to 98rock at 5:30 am, I was in a como." Now, I may be misunderstood here, but do you mean you were in a Perry Como?
I watched that video of yours on MySpace - it was pretty damn funny - but also gay-er than Jeff Garcia
Well Claude Henry Smoot, looks like spellcheck got me again. Psyche! I mean't to say perry como, it's the holidays.
Jeff Garcia is gay but I love that guy right now. How can you be that white and have the last name garcia?
that's enough for you CHS. I'm out til next time...
